What is Grid Computing?

Grid computing is a form of parallel computing that utilizes the processing power of network connected computers to solve problems that otherwise would be impossible or impractical with a single CPU. Grid computing is based on the premise that computationally intensive problems can often times be divided into smaller tasks, which may be simultaneously executed across multiple processors connected by a network interface to obtain faster results.

Grid computing offers much of the same processing capability of traditional high-performance computing resources but at a much lower cost.
